ABUJA, Nigeria,— Emirates airline said Thursday it will resume flights between Nigeria and Dubai starting October 1, ending almost two years of halted operations.
The United Arab Emirates stopped issuing visas to Nigerians in 2022 after Emirates suspended its flights, citing difficulties with repatriating money from Nigeria.
Emirates’ deputy president and chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim, stated, “We are pleased to bring back our services to Nigeria. We appreciate the Nigerian government’s support in reopening this route and look forward to welcoming passengers once again.”
The airline noted that the Lagos-Dubai route has been popular among Nigerian travelers, and the resumption will allow them to travel to Dubai and beyond to more than 140 global destinations.
Cargo flights will also be included in the restored schedule.
The announcement follows a September meeting in Abu Dhabi between Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to Emirates, the leaders discussed the removal of the visa ban and potential new investments in Nigeria, the continent’s largest economy by population.
The move marks a significant step in re-establishing air links between Nigeria and the UAE after nearly two years of disrupted services.
