DUBAI,— The United Arab Emirates said it will not join any proposed international stabilization force in Gaza until a clear plan is in place, according to a senior Emirati official.
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said Monday that Abu Dhabi supports political solutions and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.
Gargash said during the Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate that the region is still fragile but shows signs of cautious optimism.
The Gaza ceasefire agreement, designed to end fighting between Israel and Hamas, was arranged with the involvement of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
Washington has circulated a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council that would establish a two-year transitional authority and an international stabilization force in Gaza.
Reuters said that according to a draft seen, the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF) would be permitted to take “all necessary measures” to demilitarize the area, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and assist in securing Gaza’s borders while helping train a new Palestinian police force.
U.S. President Donald Trump said last week that the stabilization force might be deployed soon, noting that “conditions in Gaza are improving.”
A senior U.S. official told Reuters that Washington had reached out to several countries, including Indonesia, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, to contribute personnel to the force.
Israel has rejected Turkey’s involvement, while Azerbaijan said it would not send troops unless the fighting completely ends.
Although the U.S. has ruled out sending combat soldiers into Gaza, about two dozen American troops are already in the region in coordination roles to prepare for possible deployment, the U.S. official said.
Gargash emphasized that lasting progress in Gaza would depend on reaffirming the principles of the Abraham Accords, dialogue, coexistence, and cooperation, as a foundation for a future Palestinian state.
The UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco established relations with Israel under the Trump-brokered accords in 2020.
