ABU DHABI,— The United Arab Emirates said it welcomed a decision by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to designate several branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt as terrorist organizations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the U.S. action reflects ongoing and organized efforts by the Trump administration to confront violence and destabilizing activities linked to Muslim Brotherhood branches operating in different countries.
The ministry said these groups have been involved in actions that threaten security and public order.
The statement added that the designation is part of broader steps by the United States to cut off financial and logistical resources used by these branches to carry out, support, or justify acts tied to extremism, hatred, and terrorism.
The ministry said limiting such resources is a key element in reducing the operational capacity of these groups.
The UAE also reiterated its support for international initiatives aimed at countering extremism and terrorism.
The ministry said the country continues to back efforts that contribute to regional and international security and stability, and works with partners to address threats posed by violent organizations, as stated by the ministry.
