Tourists are now able to set up bank accounts online as soon as they arrive in UAE
ABU DHABI,— The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) announced in a statement Thursday the launch of digital bank account opening services for non-resident visitors through the Tourist Identity initiative.
The service allows tourists to open digital bank accounts instantly and securely using the online Tourist Identity, a trusted digital credential issued to visitors upon arrival in the UAE.
The system uses advanced biometric and facial recognition technologies developed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, known as ICP.
The integration of ICP’s platform with Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s mobile banking application allows visitors to complete the account opening process within minutes.
Users can then access essential banking services right away, including digital debit cards available for immediate use.

Officials said the initiative marks a significant step in the UAE’s digital transformation drive and its broader effort to expand financial inclusion.
The program also aims to reduce dependence on cash transactions, strengthen consumer protection, and promote the use of digital payment solutions across the country.
The initiative connects visitors to the UAE’s national payment infrastructure, including the national payment scheme Jaywan and the instant payment platform Aani.
Saif Humaid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services at the Central Bank of the UAE, said the launch reflects the country’s commitment to building a secure digital financial system.
He said enabling instant digital onboarding and linking visitors to the national payment ecosystem improves ease of doing business and delivers an integrated banking experience from the moment travelers arrive.
Ala’a Eraiqat, Group Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, said the initiative represents an important step in the development of the UAE’s financial sector.
He said the bank’s participation in the program reflects its focus on building future-ready financial models that strengthen the country’s global competitiveness.
Eraiqat added that through its digital capabilities, the bank is supporting a financial environment that is intuitive and resilient, consistent with the UAE’s standing as a global financial hub.
Officials said the initiative supports directives from UAE leadership and advances the national goal of building a society driven by digital payments.
The UAE has positioned itself in recent years as one of the region’s leading centers for financial technology and digital banking innovation, drawing millions of tourists and business travelers annually.
