DUBAI,— Fire broke out on Wednesday at a 50-story tower under construction near Al Habtoor Grand in Dubai Marina, United Arab Emirates, after stored materials ignited, the developer said.
Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, founder and chairman of Al Habtoor Group, wrote on social media platform X that the site will be handed to relevant authorities once cooling work is complete.
He added, “All thanks and appreciation to the Dubai Civil Defense men, who prove to us every time the level of readiness, professionalism, and dedication with which they work to protect people and property.”
Dubai Civil Defense said it received a report at 7:06 a.m. local time, or 0306 GMT, and sent firefighting teams to the scene.
Two eyewitnesses said they heard many sirens, while video from the area showed thick smoke rising into the sky.
The authority said the fire was medium in scale and had been contained. No injuries were reported.
Officials said the case will be transferred to authorities to determine the cause of the blaze.
They added construction sites are vulnerable, especially in hotter months when dry and dusty conditions can speed the spread of flames.
The developer said materials stored at the project site were the source of ignition and no further damage details were immediately released by the company or officials at the scene.
