MOSCOW,— UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday to discuss deepening strategic ties and expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.
The meeting took place at the Kremlin during Sheikh Mohamed’s official visit to Russia.
At the start of the talks, the UAE leader expressed hope that 2026 would be a year of growth for Russia and a period of continued development in relations between the UAE and Russia.
According to the Emirate News Agency, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, space, and energy.
Both leaders emphasized their shared commitment to enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries across these key areas.
The leaders also shared views on regional and international developments. Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to promoting peace and stability worldwide.
He stressed the importance of dialogue and peaceful solutions in resolving conflicts at both regional and global levels.
The UAE president also thanked Putin for supporting the country’s mediation efforts in facilitating prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine.
Sheikh Mohamed said he was proud of the UAE’s role in this humanitarian effort and reiterated the country’s readiness to assist with any constructive initiatives.
Putin expressed gratitude to the UAE for hosting trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States, which aimed to explore diplomatic solutions to the crisis in Ukraine.
He highlighted the success of the UAE’s mediation in enabling prisoner exchanges between the two countries.

In addition to the talks, Putin hosted a luncheon in honor of Sheikh Mohamed and his delegation. The UAE president concluded his visit and departed Moscow later on Thursday.
In a related development, Putin told Sheikh Mohamed that Russia is closely following the situation in Iran and wanted to discuss it during their talks, Reuters reported.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier said that opportunities for negotiations between the United States and Iran have not been exhausted.
He warned that any use of force against Tehran could trigger regional chaos and pose serious risks.
Peskov’s comments followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s call for Iran to negotiate a nuclear deal, warning of a possible military response if diplomatic efforts fail.
