DUBAI,— The United Arab Emirates reported Tuesday that a drone strike hit its consulate general in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, causing property damage but no injuries.
The foreign ministry issued a statement on Tuesday describing the incident as “a dangerous escalation and a threat to regional security and stability.”
Officials characterized the assault on diplomatic facilities as “a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws.”
The ministry condemned what it called “the cowardly terrorist drone attack targeting the UAE Consulate General in Kurdistan, Iraq, which caused material damage but resulted in no casualties.”
The ministry did not say where the drone originated. It called on authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan to investigate the attack and determine who carried it out.
Iraqi Kurdistan has faced 210 drone and missile strikes during the initial 10 days of the war pitting Israel and the United States against Iran, resulting in four fatalities and 19 wounded, reports said.
Iran has conducted most strikes against Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the region, while pro-Iran Iraqi Shiite militias have taken credit for the bulk of attacks on other targets in the area.
Tensions across the region intensified following joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes against Iran on Feb. 28, 2026.
Those strikes resulted in the death of Iran’s supreme leader along with more than 40 senior military commanders in Tehran and other cities.
Iran subsequently launched multiple waves of missile and drone assaults targeting sites throughout the Gulf region.
Strikes hit major airports, seaports, hotels and residential areas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, the report said.
Residential high-rises in Dubai Marina, The Palm Jumeirah and the Etihad Towers exterior in Abu Dhabi suffered damage.
On March 2, 2026, Amazon reported that Iranian drone attacks caused damage to a number of its data center facilities in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai International Airport remains partly shuttered following drone attacks. Operations at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport and multiple maritime ports have also been limited.
