NEW DELHI,— India has extended tariff rate quota authorisations issued for gold imports under its trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates until June 30, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said on Tuesday.
The earlier deadline was March 31 for the 2025 to 2026 fiscal year.
The agency said the move reflects current geopolitical developments affecting global trade and logistics.
It added that the extension will take effect automatically and will not require any application or fee from importers.
Gold prices in Dubai remain below those in London as travel restrictions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict keep more bullion within the local market, limiting outward movement.
In February 2026, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates reported a sharp increase in its gold reserves. Holdings rose 64.93 percent during 2025, reaching 37.902 billion dirhams, or $10.32 billion, by the end of December.
Separately, equity markets in the United Arab Emirates opened higher on Wednesday. Gains were supported by reports that the United States had proposed a ceasefire plan to Iran aimed at ending the conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that negotiations were making progress.
A source told Reuters that Washington had sent Tehran a 15 point proposal. Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the plan includes a one month ceasefire to allow further discussions.
Tehran denied any direct talks. The IRNA news agency quoted an armed forces spokesperson on Wednesday saying the United States was negotiating with itself.
Dubai’s main share index rose 2.9 percent, led by Emaar Properties, which gained 3.4 percent, and Emirates NBD, which climbed 2.9 percent. Abu Dhabi’s index increased 1.1 percent, with Aldar Properties up 2.5 percent.
