DUBAI,— The United Arab Emirates has affirmed that the Iranian community living in the country is a valued and respected part of its diverse society.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UAE is home to an Iranian community that is appreciated and well regarded, contributing to the country’s diversity and openness.
The ministry said people from more than 200 nationalities live in the UAE, reflecting its long standing commitment to coexistence and tolerance, and its dedication to all residents.
The ministry also addressed what it called inaccurate media reports about the residency status of Iranian nationals.
It said the country’s institutional approach is based on clear systems designed to protect safety and well being of everyone without exception.
The statement reaffirmed a commitment to a safe and stable environment grounded in the rule of law, protecting the rights of all residents and supporting tolerance and coexistence.
Emirates airline reported Wednesday on its website that Iranian nationals are currently barred from entering or transiting through the UAE, according to Reuters.
Another UAE carrier, Flydubai, said Iranian nationals holding a UAE Golden Visa are exempt and may still travel through or enter the country.
In recent days, the UAE has also revoked residency visas of some Iranian nationals who were outside the country, based on accounts from affected individuals and reporting by UK based Iran International.
According to the report some individuals said they have been unable to return to the UAE.
One case involved a London based Iranian with a United Kingdom work visa who said he learned his UAE residency had been canceled before traveling to Dubai.
The report also said that long-term residency permits, including 10-year Golden Visas, have been revoked for Iranian holders while they were overseas.
The individual said the cancellation happened prior to his planned trip, preventing his entry upon arrival.
He referred to the notice received before departure, which confirmed the change in his residency status under existing procedures in the UAE system overall.
