ABU DHABI,— The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has announced that residents outside the United Arab Emirates UAE whose residency permits have expired can return to the country, the state-run news agency reported.
The move comes after regional disruptions, including airspace closures, prevented residents from returning home.
The decision covers residents who were abroad and whose permits expired on or after February 28, 2026.
They are allowed to enter the UAE without applying for a new entry visa until March 31, 2026.
This measure enables affected residents to regularize their legal status without facing fines linked to circumstances beyond their control.
The Authority stated that the decision responds to exceptional situations that left residents stranded abroad, emphasizing that it reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach in addressing emergencies.
It aims to ease the burden on residents and help them continue their lives, contribute to the country’s development, and secure their future.
Officials highlighted that the decision also supports family reunification, consistent with the “Year of the Family” initiative. It allows heads of households or any family member whose residency expired while outside the UAE to return and resume life with their families.
The Authority reaffirmed that emergency response and business continuity plans remain active across all operational locations and airports.
These measures ensure smooth processing for travelers, manage cases of delayed or canceled flights, and provide assistance to residents affected by disruptions.
Authorities urged residents to follow official channels for updates and regulatory guidance related to these circumstances. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining readiness and support for travelers under all conditions.
Regional tensions escalated after joint airstrikes by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, 2026.
Iran responded with multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Gulf region locations.
According to the report, these included major airports, seaports, hotels, residential neighborhoods, and oil facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The Authority’s announcement comes amid ongoing travel interruptions, reflecting the UAE’s efforts to manage the impact of regional security events on residents abroad.
