ABU DHABI,— The United Arab Emirates summoned Omar Abdulmajid Hamid Al Obaidi, chargé d’affaires at Iraq’s embassy in Abu Dhabi, and issued a formal protest over what it described as ongoing attacks launched from Iraqi territory, state news agency reported.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the UAE strongly condemned and rejected what it called repeated unprovoked attacks carried out by Shiite factions, militias and armed groups linked to Iran, despite a declared ceasefire.
Officials said the attacks targeted key institutions in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, violating national sovereignty and airspace and breaching international law, international humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter.
The protest note, delivered by Ahmed Juma Al Marashda, director of the Arab Affairs Department, stated that the continued attacks attributed to Iran and allied groups threaten regional stability and weaken international efforts to strengthen security.
It added that such actions also complicate relations with Iraq and affect cooperation and ties between Iraq and GCC states.
Separately, Bahrain said on April 13 it summoned Iraq’s chargé d’affaires in Manama to protest drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory toward the kingdom and other GCC countries.
Bahrain’s foreign ministry said it submitted a formal protest and called on Iraq to address the situation urgently and responsibly. It added that Bahrain reserves the right to take necessary steps to protect its security and stability.
Saudi Arabia said on April 12 it had summoned Iraq’s ambassador over threats involving drones launched from Iraqi territory targeting the kingdom and other Gulf states.
The Saudi foreign ministry said it stressed the importance of Iraq responding responsibly to these threats and attacks.
