ROME,— Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates-XRG won on Sunday the Milano-Sanremo race in Italy, one of the longest and most prestigious events in cycling.
The reigning world champion took victory in a race widely seen as difficult for riders with his style, increasing his career total to 110 wins.
His success came after a crash with six kilometers remaining before the Cipressa climb. He suffered minor injuries and damage to his equipment, but quickly got back on his bike.
With support from teammates, he rejoined the main group and continued racing.
After the race, Tadej Pogačar reflected on his earlier mishap: “When I went down, I feared it might be the end. Crashing just before the crucial section is far from ideal. Thankfully, I bounced back quickly, and the damage was minimal.”
He said teamwork was essential, noting his teammates played a key role throughout the race, especially after the crash that almost ended his chances.
The Italian race is known for its long distance and tactical challenges, attracting top riders each year. His latest win adds to his growing record in major competitions on the international calendar.
