DUBAI,— Luxembourg’s national carrier Luxair will not resume flights to Dubai or launch planned service to Abu Dhabi on schedule, CEO Gilles Feith said Monday, RTL Today reported.
Luxair will halt all Dubai flights until at least Feb. 6, 2027, citing ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The airline said the date could shift depending on how the situation develops.
In February 2026, a Luxair flight carrying 131 passengers to Dubai was ordered to turn back shortly before landing as fighting between Israel, the United States and Iran intensified.
In June, the airline had said it planned to resume regular Dubai service, along with new flights to Abu Dhabi, for the autumn and winter season.
The Abu Dhabi route, announced earlier this year and originally set to begin in October, has now been pushed back to late 2027.
Luxair said the new destination’s heavy reliance on package holidays makes it especially sensitive to security conditions, and the company wants more clarity before moving forward.
Starting Tuesday, Luxair will contact affected customers about refund options.
Feith told Radio 100,7 that 2026 has been a tough year for the airline, with demand down for some destinations and revenue expected to fall 6 to 7 percent.
Bookings have picked up as temperatures cool, and Feith said fuel shortages have not been a problem. He expressed hope the airline can recover some losses this autumn and winter.
Feith also welcomed United Airlines’ plan to launch direct Luxembourg-Newark flights in April 2027.
He said Luxair may use freed-up aircraft to add destinations such as Albania or Nordic countries, or boost frequency on existing regional routes.
In a separate development, Finland’s national carrier, Finnair, announced last week that it will suspend all flights between Helsinki and Dubai for the upcoming winter season.
