DUBAI,— Dubai Municipality announced Tuesday that it will plant 20,000 trees across parks, residential areas, and educational institutions as part of a new sustainability campaign. The project marks the 20th anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leadership of Dubai.
According to the Government of Dubai Media Office, the initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, or KHDA.
The campaign is designed to support environmental sustainability while encouraging community engagement and social responsibility.
“The project honors the development journey led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and sets an example of turning national milestones into sustainable initiatives,” said Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
He added that the initiative will expand green spaces, encourage public participation in environmental protection, and contribute to the Urban Environment pillar of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.
KHDA will invite schools and universities to register the types and numbers of trees they intend to plant. Dubai Municipality will coordinate delivery of the saplings to ensure smooth implementation, according to the agency.
Designated parks for planting include Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Al Mizhar Second, Blossoms Park at Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Quoz Pond Park, and Al Warqa’a 3.
Aisha Abdulla Miran, Director General of KHDA, said the initiative reflects a long-term vision of sustainability and environmental stewardship. “Every sapling planted today represents a lasting legacy for future generations,” she said, noting that the project also aims to promote values of cooperation, environmental responsibility, and community belonging.
The initiative is aligned with the Dubai Green Project, which seeks to expand landscaped areas, improve access to greenery, and enhance the overall quality of life in the emirate.
Officials said it will also contribute to cleaner air, climate change mitigation, and Dubai’s broader goal of blending sustainable landscaping with the city’s signature urban architecture.
The campaign will involve public and private organizations, educational institutions, and community members, emphasizing collaborative action and raising awareness about environmental issues.
