DUBAI,— Stock exchanges in the United Arab Emirates closed weaker on Friday as regional investors responded to declines in overseas markets.
According to market participants, comments from several U.S. Federal Reserve officials signaled limited urgency for further rate cuts, weakening expectations that another reduction could arrive soon.
Officials noted inflation that remains firm and a jobs market that continues to show strength despite two cuts already delivered this year.
Pricing in futures markets indicated that traders see about a 49 percent chance of a quarter point Fed cut in December.
Earlier in the week, expectations had been a little above 60 percent. Shifts in U.S. monetary settings carry significant influence in the Gulf because most currencies in the region remain pegged to the dollar.
Dubai’s key share index fell 0.7 percent for a third consecutive session. Losses were broad based. Emirates NBD slipped 2.3 percent.
Salik retreated 2.1 percent even after posting a year over year rise in third quarter net earnings, as its sequential results softened from the previous quarter.
In Abu Dhabi, the main index declined 0.4 percent. It was the third straight day of losses there as well.
Aldar Properties dropped 1.6 percent, and Presight AI Holding slid 6.6 percent. International Holding Co edged lower, while its subsidiaries Multiply Group and Ghitha Holding were down 0.4 percent and 4.7 percent.
International Holding Co announced on Wednesday evening that it has finalized the leadership structure for its newly created investment entity known as 2PointZero Group.
The platform resulted from the merger of 2PointZero, Multiply Group and Ghitha Holding.
By the end of the week, both major UAE benchmarks had posted declines, marking their third weekly drop in a row.
