UAE secures fifth gold at Asian U20 Athletics Championships
DUBAI,— The UAE national athletics team captured two gold medals on Friday in the men’s and women’s 400-meter races at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, which continues through June 1, the UAE state-run agency reported.
The latest results increased the UAE’s medal count to three. The team had previously earned a bronze medal through Salma Haitham Al Marri in the women’s hammer throw on the previous day.
Sulaiman Abdulrahman delivered the UAE’s first gold medal by winning the men’s 400m final in 44.85 seconds.
His performance established a new championship record and also marked a personal best.
The result made him the first competitor in the history of the championships to complete the event in under 45 seconds.

The second gold medal was secured by Aminat Qamar Al-Din in the women’s 400m final. She finished the race in 52.72 seconds, recording a new personal best.
The UAE Athletics Federation said Abdulrahman’s result was the most notable performance of the competition.
He said that his winning time surpassed the previous championship mark of 45.53 seconds, set by China’s Aiyilikesi’er Wumai’er during the 2024 edition.
The federation said the achievement ensured Abdulrahman’s name would be recorded in the history of the continental championship.
