DUBAI,— Abu Dhabi’s state energy company ADNOC has appointed Michael O’Dwyer, Morgan Stanley’s global co-head of energy, as its new chief investment officer, three sources familiar with the matter said Thursday, Reuters reported.
The move comes as ADNOC pushes ahead with expansion plans at home and abroad.
Requests for comment sent to ADNOC went unanswered. Morgan Stanley and O’Dwyer both declined to comment on the appointment.
The company is speeding up growth through its investment arm, XRG, and is pursuing acquisitions in gas, chemicals and shipping to boost production, refining and trading since the UAE left OPEC.
O’Dwyer has been with Morgan Stanley since 2008, when he joined from Lehman Brothers.
The bank has advised on major energy deals in recent years, including ExxonMobil’s $65 billion purchase of Pioneer Natural Resources in 2023 and Chevron’s $53 billion acquisition of Hess in 2025.
It also helped lead Saudi Aramco’s initial public offering.
