DUBAI,— Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the United Arab Emirates and moved to Lebanon, sources told Amu TV on Tuesday.

The reported relocation comes as Ghani delivered his first public message on X platform in nearly six months.

In an address marking Eid al-Adha, he told Afghans he had been prevented from speaking publicly during that time and said his voice had been “silenced.”

“Nearly six months ago, I said our nation stood at a crossroads between life and destruction,” Ghani said on his X account. “During this period, I was not allowed to speak to you, and my voice was silenced.”

In the message, Ghani said Afghanistan faces a crisis of legitimacy and growing international isolation.

He argued that legitimacy comes from the will of the people, not from force or political claims. He called for national dialogue among Afghans both inside and outside the country.

He said issues including girls’ education and the future of the country’s youth are central to Afghanistan’s survival and progress.

The former president also rejected a return to armed conflict. He said no political objective could justify renewed violence among Afghans.

He stated he was not seeking personal power but was ready to support efforts toward national consensus, peace and prosperity.

Ghani fled Afghanistan on Aug. 15, 2021, as Taliban forces entered Kabul and the Western-backed government collapsed. He later resurfaced in the UAE, which confirmed it had taken him and his family in on humanitarian grounds.

His exit from Afghanistan remains one of the most debated moments of the Taliban takeover. Critics accused him of abandoning the country in its final hours under the republic. Ghani has defended his decision, saying he left to prevent bloodshed in Kabul.

Since settling in the UAE, he has made only occasional public statements and has largely stayed out of day-to-day Afghan political debates.

It remains unclear whether the reported move to Lebanon signals a shift in his political role or public engagement. Neither Ghani nor his office has commented publicly on the matter.
