DUBAI,— The United Arab Emirates marked the start of New Year 2026 with large scale public celebrations across the country, featuring coordinated fireworks, laser displays and light shows that filled the skies shortly after midnight.

Residents, visitors and tourists gathered in major cities and public spaces to witness the celebrations, many recording the events as the displays unfolded across several emirates.

Authorities said the events reflected months of preparation and coordination by security, transport and service agencies to ensure smooth operations and public safety, according to the state news agency WAM.

In Abu Dhabi, large crowds attended the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, where fireworks were combined with cultural programs highlighting traditional heritage elements.

Organizers said the event was designed to offer a full sensory experience through sound, visuals and live performances.

Additional fireworks displays took place in several locations in the capital, including the Saadiyat cultural district and along the Corniche, where families and visitors gathered to welcome the new year.

Dubai hosted one of the most widely viewed celebrations, with attention centered on Burj Khalifa and the surrounding Downtown Dubai area.

A synchronized show using fireworks and laser projections illuminated the skyline, while other events were held near Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Global Village.

Fireworks were also launched in Sharjah along its waterfront areas, while Ras Al Khaimah staged displays from multiple launch points, continuing its focus on large scale pyrotechnic presentations. Ajman, Umm Al Qaiwain and Fujairah also held coordinated celebrations.

Officials said the success of the events was supported by detailed traffic management plans and security measures.

Police patrols, civil defence units and ambulance teams were deployed across event locations, supported by smart monitoring systems.

Authorities added that public cooperation played a key role, with visitors following safety instructions and traffic guidance.

The celebrations demonstrated the country’s ability to organize major public events through integrated planning and professional execution.
