DUBAI,— Iran is demanding compensation from the United Arab Emirates, claiming the country allowed U.S. strikes on Iranian territory, Iran’s U.N. ambassador said in a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, reported by Nournews on Thursday, citing Iran’s IRNA news agency.

Amir Saeid Iravani said the UAE’s decision to let its territory be used for attacks was “an internationally wrongful act that entailed state responsibility.” Tehran said the UAE has a legal duty to provide reparations, including compensation for both material and moral damages.

The letter noted that U.S. forces launched heavy attacks on Kharaj and Abu Musa islands in the Persian Gulf on March 13.

The dispute highlights growing regional instability and Tehran’s insistence on holding other countries responsible for enabling attacks on its territory, according to the letter sent to U.N. officials.

Iravani said these strikes targeted Kharaj Island, which he described as a critical site for energy and oil exports. He added that the attacks put non-military infrastructure at risk.

Tensions in the Gulf have risen since February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel carried out joint airstrikes against Iran, killing senior Iranian officials, including Iran’s supreme leader.

Iran responded with hundreds of missile and drone strikes against locations across the Gulf region.

Targets included airports, seaports, hotels, residential areas, and oil facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, according to reports.
